This year is the 30th anniversary of the National Coastwatch Institution, a fantastic voluntary search and rescue organisation that has a station on Canvey Island at the Canvey Yacht Club.
During the anniversary a large NCI flag is being taken station to station around the UK. Last week the flag was brought to the Canvey Station by road from Folkstone. It stayed there overnight, where it was picked up from the pontoon at the Yacht Club by a lifeboat from RNLI Southend to be taken to the coastwatch station in Shoebury.
Canvey Coastwatch do great work helping work keeping the estuary around the island safe and it was a pleasure to be asked to witness the handing over of the flag and to celebrate their national anniversary.
