Today the Government has announced plans to tackle the issue of pet theft, safeguarding the welfare and safety of pets, keeping them safe and with their families – where they belong.
Our pets are much loved companions and members of our families – and we are determined to protect as many families as possible from going through the ordeal of having them stolen. That is why the Government has today published the report by the Pet Theft Taskforce, setting out how we will crack down on this abhorrent crime, including making pet theft a specific criminal offence, improving recording and data collection of pet thefts by police forces and introducing new requirements to register more details on microchip databases.
This will help to protect the safety of our pets and keep them with their families, where they belong.
