As part of my role as Comptroller of His Majesty's Household I am also responsible for running the business of the House of Commons on sitting Fridays, helping to guide new Private Members' Bills brought forward by MPs through their debates and votes in the chamber.
Today I guided through 7 of these including:
The Licensing Hours Extension Bill - Which will make it easier for pubs to open longer for special occasions.
The Pensions (Special Rules for End of Life) Bill - Which will allow people who are terminally ill to claim certain lump sum payments in the last 12 months of their life.
The Dogs (Protection of Livestock Amendment) Bill - Which offers more protection to farm animals at risk of livestock worrying.
The Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief Bill - Which creates a permanent post in the Foreign Office to focus on global freedom of religion, for example helping to tackle the persecution of Christians abroad.
The Space Industry (Indemnities) Bill - Which could enable a big increase in investment for the growing UK Space sector.
