Rebecca Harris MP is fully supportive of the Government's new legislation announced today to fast-track exonerations for innocent Post Office branch employees caught up in the Horizon IT scandal and see they are properly compensated for the injustice they have suffered.
Commenting, she said:
"I have been following this terrible story closely from quite early on. Sadly a local resident was affected by the scandal and I am pleased they will now see justice being done. I was a member of the Business, Innovation and Skills Committee in 2015 and was one of the MPs grilling the Post Office Chief Executive and her officials. I also voted to make sure the Government’s Post Office (Horizon System) Compensation Bill passed through the House of Commons last year.
The standard court processes to exonerate wrongful convictions was proving unable to deal quickly enough with such a large number of miscarriages of justice so this new legislation is very much needed.”
