The Transport and Home Secretaries have taken legal action against the M25 protesters whose reckless actions are putting motorists at risk.
The Insulate Britain activists who have brought large sections of the M25 to a standstill are breaking the law, undermining their cause and putting motorists at risk.
Last night, the Government applied for an emergency injunction that will allow the police to remand repeat offenders into custody for longer, as well as increasing the prison sentences and fines they could face. A judge granted the injunction overnight which will become effective later today.
We will not let these demonstrators wreak havoc on our roads, disrupt thousands of people’s journeys and put lives in danger.
As stated by the Transport Secretary:
“Invading a motorway is reckless & puts lives at risk. I asked National Highways to seek an injunction against M25 protestors which a judge granted last night. Effective later today, activists will face contempt of court with possible imprisonment if they flout.”
