Oikos Storage Ltd are currently engaged in the preparation of an application for a Development Consent Order in respect of works to improve the operational efficiency of the existing site on Canvey Island. A non-statutory consultation exercise, introducing the proposal, was undertaken by Oikos in 2019. Please note: the consultation exercise is NOT being undertaken by Castle Point Borough Council. The proposal is to be considered and determined by the Secretary of State for Transport.
The OMSSD project consists of the installation of new import and export infrastructure, including marine loading arms and pipelines on the existing operational jetties and the construction of new storage tanks across the southern part of the facility. Other associated works such as a new workshop, additional road tanker loading facilities, additional on-site parking, an extension to the existing office and off site ecological mitigation works also form part of the OMSSD.
Oikos have posted a Statement of Community Consultation on the Oikos website. The document sets out how consultation on the proposed development will be undertaken & includes details of the Project Exhibition.
The Statutory Consultation Period, will run until the 18th May 2021.
Once the consultation has finished OIKOS will review all feedback received and use this along with their final assessment work to complete their project proposals ready for submission to the Planning Inspectorate (PINS) later in 2021. Although the timeframe will then be determined by PINS, and subject to PINS accepting our application, OIKOS anticipates that the examination period into the OMSSD project would begin in late 2021, with a decision due by late 2022. They predict that construction will start on site in early 2023.
